This paper discusses the history of the 1980 Satanic Panic, during which there was a scare in the United States pertaining to the popular Role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons. The accusations were varied and severe, citing D&D play as a cause of murders and suicides, and a gateway into devil worship. The panic extended well into the 1990s, and is worth studying as a symptom of the rise to power of Conservative Christianity in American politics.
